Senator Ricardo Lara of California has introduced SB 323, which would pressure with new tax measures youth groups that ban gay, transgender, or Atheist people from participating in their clubs. This is part of an effort to force the Boy Scouts of America to remove its ban on gay people from being members of the organization.
Some U.S. cities have stopped providing the Boy Scouts of America with free rent and other government benefits. The legislation would establish California as the first state to make a pointed effort at the group for its anti-homosexual policies and “provide that an organization that is a public charity youth organization that discriminates on the basis of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, or religious affiliation is not exempt from the taxes imposed by [The Corporation Tax Law].”
